Student Council

Student Council Meets on Thursday mornings at 8:05. Student Council members will be operating the school store on Thursdays before school. We will not meet November 15, December 20, Jan. 17, Feb. 21, March 28.

About Student Council: Members are selected on the basis of self-nomination essays. The students must write about why they wish to be involved and why they would be quality candidates for the job. Council members are expected to represent Truman Elementary School by following the PAART Rules (Personal Best, Active Listening Respect, Responsibility, Trustworthiness) which are the leadership qualities we are developing for successful living.. The essay requires the students to describe their behavior in and out of the classroom, schoolwork, their school attendance, additional organizations or other pertinent information.

Service Projects: The Truman Student Council prides itself on their service projects. We are dedicated to collecting pull-tabs off of aluminum cans to benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City. Two years ago the students took a field trip there and became very energized by the good work the "House" provides.

Campaign for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society: Provided a donation through our penny collection fundraiser beginning Jan 7th through Jan.28th.

Earth Day: Students have an opportunity to help decide how Truman School will best observe this day/week.

Food Bank-collections every year. Cans of food will be the price of admission to Family Fun Night Dec. 7th.

Concerns: At times student council members have chosen to do something for a member of our community. Concerns from the classroom have generated ideas such as planting a tree in honor of one of our S/P students who passed away. We also provided money for lunch for a family who had a Truman student hospitalized after a car accident.
